Academics & Researchers

The University’s security awareness training course is mandatory for all staff. It provides a basic understanding of information security and privacy compliance and your obligations in achieving these.

If you intend to use departmental or third-party IT systems or services to support research, the security risks associated with such usage must be assessed at an early stage, particularly when a DPIA is required. Check our web site guidance about Risk management and Working with third parties and consult Research Services for more information.

The Information Security Team provide a chargeable security risk assessment service which can be used if required. Some basic information will be needed for the first stage of an assessment.

You must secure your own laptops and devices if used for University work. Guidance is available on topics like avoiding email scams, securing your devices, avoiding phishing attacks and staying safe on the move.
