Update on Endpoint Security

The Endpoint Security project team are pleased to report that we are now progressing a three-year license agreement with Sophos on behalf of the collegiate-University. This new contract will include some additional products from Sophos’ enduser and server range, most notably Sophos Central Endpoint Intercept X for all staff and students, as well as Sophos Central Server Protection Advanced including anti-ransomware protection (CrytoGuard) for up to 3,000 servers. Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that the University will benefit from Sophos Cloud Endpoint Protection including the Sophos Cloud Mobile Control Standard for Android and iOS for staff and students as well as Sophos Central Device Encryption for all staff.

The project team is currently focussing on getting the new agreement in place and ensuring the continuity of licensing. This is most pressing for colleagues already using Sophos Central. It has been agreed with Sophos that all new licenses will be managed under a single Sophos Central Enterprise Dashboard with existing Sophos Central instances as sub-estates.

If you are using Sophos Central you will need to enrol into the Enterprise Dashboard to access the new licences, but you will retain control over products and policies. Whilst we are working with Sophos to identify those impacted, it is important that you let us know if you are using Sophos Central so that we can cross-reference the information. Please contact us at endpointsecurity@infosec.ox.ac.uk if this is the case to start the process to onboard you.

For colleagues using local Sophos Enterprise Consoles or unmanaged Sophos clients, there is no change required at present.

We have organised 2 briefing sessions to update you on progress and to allow for Q&A. These will be held on:

  • Monday 13th August, at 10am in Rooms 1-3 at
University Offices, Wellington Square, OX1 2JD
  • Thursday 30th August, at 10am at
Boundary Brook House, Old Road Campus, OX3 7LQ

Please feel encouraged to attend, no booking is necessary.

The briefing materials will be made available. However, if you are using Sophos Central and can’t attend either of these sessions please email endpointsecurity@infosec.ox.ac.uk as soon as you can.

If you have any queries please direct them to James Smith (Project Sponsor), Percy Reason (Project Manager), or another member of the project board.
